TV Beds Explained: How TV Lift Beds Work, TV Size & Cost
The short answer: A TV bed, or TV lift bed, has a motorized lift built into the bed that raises a television for viewing from bed and lowers it out of sight when you're done. Before buying, confirm which TV sizes the lift fits, measure the room for the screen when raised, and budget for the lift itself. On our Melrose TV Lift Bed, adding the lift to a standard-headboard Queen takes the price from $7,641.50 to $16,575.

What is a TV bed?
A TV bed is a bed with a built-in television lift. The TV stays hidden inside the bed until you want it, then a motor raises it into viewing position. That leaves the walls free of a mounted screen and keeps the bedroom looking like a bedroom when the TV is off. Our Melrose TV Lift Bed by Thomas Dawn is an upholstered bed where the integrated lift is an option. You can also order the same bed without the lift.

How does a TV lift bed work?
A motorized mechanism in the bed raises the TV to viewing height and lowers it back down. The details vary by design: where the TV sits, how far it rises, and how it's controlled. Ask for the specifications of the exact bed you're considering. Don't confuse a TV lift bed with a lift-up storage bed, where the "lift" raises the mattress platform to reach storage underneath.

What size TV fits in a TV bed?
It depends on the bed and its lift. The Melrose listing doesn't publish a maximum TV size, so ask our team to confirm before you order. Have these ready:
- the TV's width, height and depth without its stand
- the TV's weight
- where the power and any streaming devices or soundbar will go

How do I plan a bedroom around a TV bed?
- Clearance: make sure nothing blocks the lift's path, such as ceiling fans, pendants or shelves, and leave room around the bed to walk.
- Viewing comfort: picture where your eyes are when you're sitting up in bed, and ask how high the screen sits when fully raised.
- Power and cables: plan an outlet near the bed and a way to route cables neatly.
- Scale: TV beds are substantial pieces. Compare the bed's footprint, headboard height and room size with our modern beds range.

TV bed or TV cabinet: which is better?
A TV bed keeps everything in one piece and frees up floor space. A separate lift cabinet or media console lets you change the bed later. If you'd rather keep the TV off the bed, browse our media cabinets.
Questions, answered
Frequently asked
Can I buy the Melrose without the TV lift?
Yes. The Melrose comes in Queen, King and Cal King, each with or without the TV lift, plus extended-headboard versions. Full custom sizing is available through Thomas Dawn.
What size TV is best for a bed?
That depends on room size and viewing distance, and on the TV sizes the lift supports. Since the Melrose listing doesn't state a maximum TV size, confirm your TV with us before ordering.
Is a TV bed the same as a storage bed?
No. A TV bed lifts a television. A lift-up storage bed raises the mattress platform to reach storage. Compare storage beds.
How long does a TV bed take to arrive?
The Melrose is made to order. Confirm the current lead time with our team.
