Meet Noir
Furniture that reads like sculpture.
Noir is a Los Angeles furniture house known for handmade pieces with an architectural point of view: turned and faceted walnut, hand-rubbed finishes, marble, and blackened iron. Their work moves easily between modern, transitional and organic interiors, and it is a favorite with designers and hospitality projects.
At Modern Studio we chose Noir pieces that work as the anchor of a room: a coffee table you build a living room around, a sideboard that holds its own on an empty wall, a dining table that makes a statement.
Materials & finish
Walnut, iron, marble and glass.
Most Noir pieces start with solid walnut or mahogany, finished by hand in tones such as Black Walnut, Dark Walnut, Greige Walnut and Ebony Walnut. Metal pieces are made in iron with a Matte Black finish. Because each piece is handmade, small variations in grain and finish are part of its character.
- Walnut finishes: Black, Dark, Greige and Ebony Walnut, depending on the model
- Metal: Matte Black iron and aged brass details
- Tops: wood, clear glass, or natural marble
The living room edit
How to choose a Noir coffee table.
Size it to the sofa. A coffee table about two-thirds the length of your sofa looks balanced. The 66–70 inch Calatrava, Duboris, Yaoli, Paxton and Delphi suit large sofas and sectionals; the 60 inch Hagen fits a standard three-seater; the 36 inch round Luca works in apartments and in front of a pair of lounge chairs.
Mind the height. Noir coffee tables sit between 16 and 18.5 inches high, comfortably at or just below a typical sofa seat.
Mix materials. Pair a walnut coffee table with a Foster side table in a matching finish, or let the Matte Black Delphi bring contrast to a warm room.
