QLOCKTWO at Modern Studio · Made in Germany
QLOCKTWO: the word clock that tells time the way we say it.
“It is half past seven.” Instead of hands and numerals, a QLOCKTWO lights up the words. Handmade in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, it’s a modern wall clock that works as a piece of art. Here’s how to choose yours, from the tabletop EARTH 13.5 to the room-filling EARTH 180 and the lunar MOON 90.
Biegert & Funk · Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany
A clock that speaks instead of ticks.
QLOCKTWO began with what its makers call “a simple and ingenious idea: a time display that shows the time as it is spoken.” The artists Marco Biegert and Andreas Funk worked on that idea in their studio for many years before finishing the first QLOCKTWO in 2009. It changed how a clock could look: a calm field of letters where only the words for the current time light up.
Today the line has grown into what QLOCKTWO calls its UNIVERSE: EARTH, the word clocks; MOON, a lunar-cycle display; and W, a wristwatch (QLOCKTWO W). Every piece is handmade in Schwäbisch Gmünd, in southern Germany.
At Modern Studio we carry the EARTH word clocks in all four sizes and the MOON 90. You’ll find them together in our QLOCKTWO collection, alongside our wider edit of modern wall clocks.

“QLOCKTWO brings the time display closer to people. It becomes a friendly companion instead of a hectic driver that speeds up life even more.” — QLOCKTWO
Handcrafted in Germany
See how a QLOCKTWO is made.
QLOCKTWO describes its pieces as “handmade unique timepieces from Schwäbisch Gmünd since 2009” and stands behind “Quality Made in Germany.” The film shows that work up close.
- The word matrix. EARTH shows the 24 hours of a day in a grid of letters, in the languages of our world.
- Light that adapts. A light sensor adjusts the LEDs to the room’s ambient light, and you can also set brightness by hand.
- Fronts you can change. The front cover can be swapped, so a new surface or language can come later. A language change needs a compatible front and the matching clock setting.

Choose a size
Four sizes of EARTH, from the bedside to the great room.
Scale is the first decision. QLOCKTWO renamed its classic models in the EARTH line, but its own pages still pair the old names with the new: EARTH 45 is the QLOCKTWO Classic, EARTH 90 the Large, and EARTH 13.5 the Touch.

EARTH 13.5: the tabletop QLOCKTWO
QLOCKTWO pitches the EARTH 13.5 as “a sophisticated accent on the table or sideboard.” It is also the most practical QLOCKTWO. It has an alarm, a seconds mode that shows large numerals inside the matrix, and Night Touch, which keeps the face dark until you touch it and then shows the time for two seconds. That makes it a natural bedside clock. Fronts run from brushed Full Metal and Deep Black to Creator’s Editions such as Rust, Vintage Copper and Silver & Gold.
EARTH 45: the QLOCKTWO Classic
At 45 cm square, the EARTH 45 can hang on the wall or stand on its own stand. QLOCKTWO says it “gives any room a unique, noble ambience.” It also offers the widest choice of fronts, from the brushed or matt-coated Steel Series to the full range of Creator’s Editions below. Accessories: the EARTH 45 Stand and an extra front cover, so you can change the look later.

EARTH 90: the Large
“With a size of 90 x 90 cm, the QLOCKTWO EARTH 90 unfolds a special effect,” QLOCKTWO writes. It comes with a front of brushed stainless steel, a matt coating, or a Creator’s Edition. At this size it becomes the focal wall above a console, across a living room or behind a reception desk. See the EARTH 90.
EARTH 180: architecture-scale
The EARTH 180 is 180 cm square. QLOCKTWO calls it “an unmissable design element for spacious rooms,” and its own pages show it in Black Pepper, Desert, Rust, Glintscape and Platinum. Treat it as an installation and plan the wall support, power and delivery route with us and your installer before you order.
Fronts & Creator’s Editions
Steel, stone, rust, and gold leaf.
The front is where QLOCKTWO turns from a clock into a material study. The Steel Series is the restrained choice: a stainless-steel front, either brushed or with a matt coating. The Creator’s Editions go further. Desert uses unpolished marble stone. Glintscape is sedimentary rock “millions of years old,” and Metamorphite is slate in different shades of gray. Rust is created by hand from raw steel, Vintage Copper is patinated copper, and Gold is “covered by hand with 24-carat gold leaf.” There are also Silver & Gold (a 12-karat white-gold alloy of equal parts silver and gold), Platinum (only with a black body) and Moon Gold.
Not every edition comes in every size, and some fronts have their own mounting rules. Tell us the model you’re considering and we’ll confirm which fronts, body colors and languages are available before you order.

Shown on EARTH 45. Natural stone and hand-finished metal vary from piece to piece, and that variation is part of their character.
QLOCKTWO MOON 90
Not the hour, but the moon.
MOON is the quieter part of the family. It isn’t a word clock: the MOON 90 “presents the passage of time of a lunar cycle in 28 recurring intervals,” so the moon on its face slowly waxes and wanes. QLOCKTWO calls it “a declaration of love to the moon.” It is handcrafted to customer specifications, with the moon finish and sky background chosen when you order. For a larger wall there is also the MOON 180, at 180 × 180 cm.
At 90 × 90 cm it hangs like a large artwork, and it suits a dining room, study or bedroom where a glowing word clock might feel too lively.
Living with a QLOCKTWO
Plan the wall before you choose the front.
1. Tape out the square
Cut paper to 45, 90 or 180 cm and tape it up. Look at it from the sofa, the dining table and the doorway. The words should be easy to read from where you actually sit.
2. Plan power and support
The EARTH wall clocks need a power connection, and the larger pieces are heavy. Our product pages list the manufacturer’s dimensions and weights. Your installer should check the wall and plan any concealed cable before delivery.
3. Pick the language
EARTH shows time in many languages. English is the natural choice, but a front in German, French, Italian or the language of your family can make the clock personal.
4. Match the material to the room
Brushed steel suits a minimal interior. Rust and Vintage Copper warm up concrete and plaster. Gold leaf and Platinum read as jewelry against a dark wall.

Frequently asked
What is a QLOCKTWO word clock?
A QLOCKTWO EARTH shows the time in illuminated words on a grid of letters, “a time display that shows the time as it is spoken,” in QLOCKTWO’s words. The artists Marco Biegert and Andreas Funk created the first one in 2009.
Is the EARTH 45 the same as the QLOCKTWO Classic?
Yes. QLOCKTWO now names its word clocks by size in the EARTH line, and its own pages still label EARTH 45 as the Classic, EARTH 90 as the Large and EARTH 13.5 as the Touch.
Where are QLOCKTWO clocks made?
QLOCKTWO makes them by hand in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, and has done so since 2009.
What’s the difference between EARTH and MOON?
EARTH is the word clock. MOON 90 doesn’t tell the hour. It shows the course of a lunar cycle in 28 recurring intervals, so it works more as sculptural wall art than an everyday clock.
Can I change the front or the language later?
EARTH front covers are exchangeable, so you can change the surface or language later. A language change needs a compatible front cover and the matching clock setting, and Arabic fronts can only be exchanged within the Arabic version. Ask us to confirm compatibility for your model.
Can I see QLOCKTWO in person?
Visit our Laguna Beach showroom to talk through sizes, fronts and installation, and call ahead if you’d like to know what’s on the floor that day.
