Statement accent pieces: sculptural decor from Phillips Collection and Arditi.
One great object can do more for a room than a dozen small ones. Here is how to choose and place sculpture, organic tables, stools and wall art, with pieces from Phillips Collection’s cast roots and petrified wood and Arditi Collection’s wood and resin.
Two makers
Nature, cast and composed.
Phillips Collection
For more than 40 years, Phillips Collection has worked in what it calls organic contemporary design: furniture, accessories, wall decor, sculpture and lighting for indoor and outdoor spaces. The company’s story began with Larry and Sherry Phillips, collectors of ancient Asian art; their son Mark and his wife Julie then built the business by sourcing hand-crafted pieces around the world. It now runs a 400,000-square-foot campus in High Point, North Carolina, with showrooms in High Point and Las Vegas.
Two signatures run through the line. Its Origins pieces use reclaimed roots and live-edge slabs. Its cast pieces, such as the Cast Naturals collection, mold resin composites from real roots and wood, then finish them in stone, bronze or metal leaf. Cast pieces are lighter than the real thing, and many are rated for outdoor use.
Arditi Collection
Arditi Collection makes custom furniture for luxury homes, designers, architects and hospitality projects across the United States. Its materials include rare woods, high-gloss resins, exotic veneers, natural stone and sculptural metals. Arditi says resin pieces are “never fully repeatable”: the grain, the live edge and the flow of resin make each one unique.
Most Arditi pieces are made to order. For selected wood pieces, Arditi offers a slab approval step before production, so you can approve the actual wood.

Placement rules
Scale first, then sightlines.
Designers’ rules of thumb, not laws. Use painter’s tape or a cardboard cutout to try the footprint before you order.
Place tall pieces (60″ and up) where they’re seen from a doorway or down a hall, with open floor around them. Leave at least 12–18″ between the top and the ceiling.
Aim for roughly two-thirds of the sofa’s length, 16–18″ from the seat edge, and a top within a couple of inches of the seat height. Organic shapes soften a straight sofa.
Hang the center of a piece about 57–60″ from the floor, or 8–10″ above a sofa or console. Over furniture, aim for about two-thirds of its width.
A side table looks best within about 2″ of the sofa arm. A low stool doubles as a perch or a plant stand.
A cast-root or slab console in an entry anchors the wall above it; layer a mirror or a single wall sculpture over it.
Sets of three or four (side tables, wall discs, chess pieces) read as one composition. Keep spacing even and tight.

What to know about one-of-a-kind pieces.
Every piece varies
Petrified wood, chamcha wood, burl and wood-and-resin pieces differ in color, grain and markings from the photos. That is the point, but expect it.
Check weight and access
Large sculptures and stone-look tables can be heavy and ship by freight. Measure doorways, stairs and elevators, and compare them with the packed dimensions on the product page.
Indoor or outdoor?
Some cast pieces, such as the Cast Boulder table, Beau console and Wooden Moon, are specified for indoor and outdoor use. Solid wood pieces like the Burl Block are for indoors.
Timing
Arditi pieces are made to order. For Phillips pieces, we confirm current availability, lead time and delivery before you order.

Frequently asked
What is a statement piece?
A single object, such as a sculpture, an organic coffee table or a large wall piece, that sets the tone of a room and draws the eye first. Most rooms need only one or two.
Are Phillips Collection cast pieces real wood or stone?
Cast pieces are resin composites molded from natural forms such as roots and wood, then hand-finished in stone, bronze or metal-leaf looks. Other pieces, like the Chaka tables (petrified wood) and the Freeform bench (solid chamcha wood), are natural materials.
Can sculptures go outdoors?
Some can. The product page states when Phillips specifies a piece for indoor and outdoor use, as with the Cast Boulder coffee table, the Beau cast root console and the Wooden Moon sculpture.
Can Arditi pieces be customized?
Yes. Arditi pieces are made to order and customizable, and for selected wood pieces Arditi offers slab approval before production. Ask us for a quote.
How high should I hang wall art?
Center it about 57–60″ from the floor, or 8–10″ above a sofa or console, and aim for about two-thirds of the furniture’s width.
