2027 modern furniture trends: what designers say is next.
Deeper, puffier sofas. One sculptural chair. Stone coffee tables, warm walnut and cherry, game tables left out for play, and a little chrome. Here is what the 2027 forecasts from House Beautiful, Interior Design Trends and Decorilla agree on, with pieces you can see in Laguna Beach.
Trend 1 · Deep, puffy, modular seating
Comfort is no longer subtle.
Coming out of the Milan and High Point shows, House Beautiful reports that “sofas are becoming softer, puffier, and dramatically larger.” Decorilla says puffer upholstery “has also moved out of novelty and into serious production,” and that modular seating can be separated and recombined depending on the evening.
Interior Design Trends calls low-slung modular sofas with 25–28 in seats the lounging trend of the decade, with a caution worth repeating: they are “a mistake for anyone shorter than about 5 ft 5 in” or for older relatives. Sit before you buy.
