Connubia dining sets: how to pair Italian tables and chairs.
Connubia makes modern Italian dining tables, chairs and stools that are designed to be mixed. This guide shows how to choose a table, match chairs that fit it, and find the QuickShip colorways that ship from U.S. stock, with six ready-made sets priced from our live catalog.
The brand
Everyday Italian design, made to be mixed.
Connubia describes itself as furniture for “homes that are filled with life”: tables and chairs meant for everyday meals, homework and long dinners with friends. On connubia.com, Connubia calls itself a brand of Orbital Design Collettive, and the site is run by Calligaris S.p.A., with operational headquarters in Manzano (Udine), in Italy’s Friuli region. The brand says it draws on more than a century of experience in working materials and controls every stage of its supply chain.
Its I am Green program combines natural and recycled materials with circular design, and you can see it in the catalog. Chairs like Abby are made of recycled polypropylene, and the Vully rug is woven from recycled polyester.
Most of Connubia’s range is built from interchangeable parts: a shell on metal, wood or aluminum legs, and a top in ceramic, melamine, glass or glass stone. Build a set
Four decisions, in this order.
1. Size the table to the room
Allow about 36″ from the table edge to a wall or furniture so chairs can slide back, and 42–48″ where people walk behind seated guests. A 47¼″ round seats four comfortably; a 63″ rectangle seats six.
2. Choose the top for how you live
Ceramic resists heat and scratches and suits busy families. Melamine is an easy-care everyday surface. Glass and glass stone keep a small room visually open.
3. Pick chairs that fit under it
Check seat height against the table’s clearance (see the fit check below), then choose by comfort: shells for easy care, upholstered seats for long dinners, armchairs for the ends.
4. Choose colorways, and timing
If you need the set soon, start from each product’s QuickShip colorways, which ship from Connubia’s U.S. stock. Everything else is made to order in Italy.
Fit check
Will the chairs fit the table?
Two measurements matter. Aim for about 10–12″ between the seat and the tabletop, and at least about 7″ between the seat and whatever is under the top (the apron or frame) so legs don’t hit it. These are Connubia’s published figures for the tables and chairs in this guide.

Example: an 18⅝″ Tuka seat under the 30″ Dix Round leaves 11⅜″ to the top and 10⅛″ to the 28¾″ clearance. Under the Band (25⅝″ clearance), the same seat leaves 7″, which works for most people but is worth trying if you sit with crossed legs.

Chairs to mix and match.
Connubia chairs come in families. The Tuka shell, for example, sits on metal, wood or aluminum bases and comes in dining, counter, bar, lounge and office versions, so a kitchen and a dining room can share one design language. Academy works the same way.
A few ways to combine them: use the same chair all around for a calm look; put armchairs or a contrasting color at the ends; or mix two shapes in one finish (Tuka and Cozy Mid in Taupe, say). Some chairs, including Tuka Mid Wood and Desy, are sold in pairs.
