    Choosing a velvet sofa

Velvet brings depth of color and a soft, plush hand to a living room. This collection includes 12 velvet sofas, sectionals and a loveseat: Mobital’s quilted-velvet FURO sofas and the curved Itza sectional, sculptural statement sofas by Interior Moderna, Whiteline’s white-velvet Solea, and Modern Studio sofas in velvets such as sand, green and ochre. Prices start around $2,450.

Is a velvet sofa hard to keep clean?

Not usually. Most velvets today are polyester or blends, which resist crushing better than older cotton velvets. Vacuum with a soft brush attachment, blot spills right away rather than rubbing, and brush the pile back gently if it marks. Always follow the care code for the specific fabric.

    Is velvet good with pets?

Tight, short-pile velvet has no loops for claws to catch, so it often holds up better than loose weaves, but hair does cling to it and sharp claws can still pull or mark the pile. Our leather vs fabric sofa guide compares covers for homes with pets.

    Will a velvet sofa fade?

Strong direct sunlight fades most upholstery over time, and rich velvet colors can show it sooner. Place the sofa away from unfiltered south- or west-facing windows, or use sheers.

How do I choose the right size?

Most sofas are 84 to 96 inches long, and a sofa should fill about two-thirds of its wall. Check each product’s dimensions and our sofa and sectional dimensions guide.
